Original oil painting of Montmartre, Paris, signed Kubur
An absorbing original oil on canvas of Montmartre, Paris, signed Kubur.
On a quiet autumn day in the northern suburb of the great city, a little west of the great Sacre Coeur cathedral on top of the hill, this gentle scene with narrow, cobbled streets and ship fronts with just two figures alone together.
Montmartre has a quaint, village-y feel to it and it’s quite unlike any other part of the city. I used to busk there regularly, and became a familiar face to the artists who painted street scenes there every day.
Much like Amelie’s neighbour who re-painted the Renoir painting again and again, this artist painted this scene many times, and one or two other examples can be seen online. The artist was active during the 70s, probably before and after too.
It has a lovely, freedom to the brushstrokes, a little Impressionist we could say, bringing a lovely atmosphere to the space.
It comes strung, ready to hang.
55cm X 46cm X 2cm.
