American screenprint Circus poster from 1975, framed
A fantastic vintage original screenprinted Circus poster, advertising perhaps the first circus troupe in the world, the Hanneford which was purportedly founded in 1690.
A fantastically colourful scene with a long nosed clown, a horse, elephant and a lady. The poster details two dates in October 1975 when the circus performed to thousands of attendees at the Freedom Hall Civic Centre, Johnson City, Tennessee.
There is no year on the poster but the venue was built in 1974, and October 17th landed on a Friday only a handful of times since. The graphics appear to suggest around the 1950s but with the combination of the above information and an online archive of a contemporary news story from the area, can be found mentioning the attendance and presence of the circus in the city over that weekend in 1975.
Framed in a very fitting gloss red frame and string to the reverse ready to bring instant fun and colour to your space.
74cm X 57.5cm.
