Early 19th century pair of bird and dogs prints in matching vintage frames
A pair of mid century prints of the Ornithology and Quadrupeds after the 19th century Welsh natural history illustrator Sydenham Edwards.
Featuring large birds such as stork, bittern, and heron, and the other dogs including hounds, beagle and harrier.
These illustrations originally appeared in Abraham Rees’s ‘The Cyclopaedia. or, Universal Dictionary of Arts, Sciences and Literature’, an important 19th-century encyclopedic work which was published in serialised form from 1802 to 1820.
The pictures were framed and professionally mounted in lovely vintage solid wood frames with gilt detail in the early part of the last century.
The reverse of the pictures are stamped for The Bramptons, Judd Street, in West London. Presumably quite an exclusive address.
The species of birds and dogs are printed to the bottom centre, along with their Latin names.
The pictures including their frames measure 36cm X 30cm.
