Antique French late 19th century ebonised bamboo-style rectangular wall mirror with original foxed plate
A wonderful antique French late 19th century wooden framed wall mirror with its original, heavily foxed plate.
Typical of the Orient-inspired style favoured in the late 19th century, the faux-bamboo shaped frame, which is actually another heavier solid wood is ebonised which again was fashionable on the period, taking inspiration from ebonised Asian furniture and wares.
Of good proportions as a hallway mirror, or great in the bathroom or the bedroom.
The mirror has a very thick glass plate which has just the right amount of foxing to give it bags of character and evidence of age, while still giving plenty of practical reflecting surface.
The back of the glass is painted in the same black of the frame, there is no wooden back to the mirror.
It would also look great be placed on a dressing table or on the floor leant against the wall.
The mirror weighs around 6kg, and I have included a chain in antique brass finish, which is rated to carry up to 10kg. As shown in the relevant photos, it can be wound around the top corners either way up to securely hold and mount it on a wall. The chain means that the antique frame doesn’t need to have screws or hooks screwed into it.
It can of course be used horizontally or vertically to suit your space.
It measures 76.5cm X 56.5cm. The glass plate is 58cm X 38cm.
