19th century penny seat Windsor chair

A wonderful, substantial painted later-19th century Windsor chair with a penny seat, and turned details.

Beneath the seat are turned H stretchers echoing the side posts above. The back spindles lighten the piece, but the seat is larger than most, a round rather than common curved square. Known as a ‘penny’ seat due to the shape, this one has fantastic original paintwork, revealing the wood beneath in naturally worn places.

This comfortable and attractive chair would be in the lounge, a corner of a bedroom or reading nook. Also great as a carver chair at the head of a dining table.

It’s of a similar period and had the same, fantastic worn black paint as the legs of this dining table which it would works brilliantly at the head of:

Measures 89cm tall at the back X 60cm at widest to the top rail. The seat is 48cm in height and the maximum depth of the chair is 60cm.
