French floral print of early 19th C. flower illustration, after J.L. Prevost, professionally mounted in vintage gilt frame
A large, midcentury print of an early 19th century floral illustration, with a beautiful composition of yellow, pink and purple flowers, in vintage gilded frame.
This beautifully executed floral illustration from which the print is made is by renowned botanical artist Jean Louis Prevost. He studied under Jean Jacques Bachelier in Paris and created one of the most exquisite French botanical works, Collection des Fleurs et des Fruits (1805) He often had his work exhibited in the Paris Salon and was a member of the Academie de Saint Luc.
The illustration shows four varieties of Dahlias, in red, burgundy and yellow, each listed in text to the base of the picture.
The frame has plenty of characterful wear, and there are a few small chips here and there, please zoom in on photos.
