An excellent oil on board portrait of a refined 19th century gentleman in black tie, with a full and powerful moustache.

He is named to the reverse as Jan Beyrens, Beyrens being an aristocratic name from Belgium, where this painting was sourced.

All we know for sure about the gentleman rendered fantastically well in oils on this old pine board is that he died on 28th April 1862.

There is some bubbling to the surface in places which is visible in photos.
