Beautiful Art Nouveau sterling Silver hand mirror and matching hairbrush set

A beautiful Art Nouveau sterling silver hand mirror and brush dressing table set, made in Birmingham England in 1906 by Solomon Blanckensee & Sons.

An absolutely sumptuous peak Art Nouveau repoussé design envelops both the handles and the whole back of both pieces.

Depicting a woman wrapped in her own long hair, holding a zither musical instrument and surrounded in flowers drawn in highly stylised curving Art Nouveau forms.

The hallmark dates the pieces to 1906 where they were produced by Blanckensee and Sons of Frederick Street in the heart of Birmingham’s jewellery quarter. Founded in Bristol in 1826 by Prussian immigrant Solomon Blanckensee, the company soon became famous and highly reputed nationwide and beyond, and after their move to Birmingham, “cemented their reputation as one of the pre-eminent jewellery businesses to develop in Victorian Britain.” (heritagejewelleryco.com)

The lovely, believed original, beveled glass has just a few small age spots.

There are a few small knocks to the silver work and the pointed nose-tips have worn a little flat over time.

A truly beautiful original Art Nouveau pair made by named silversmiths from sterling silver in the early 1900s at the height of the very collectable Art Nouveau period of art, design and aesthetics.

Mirror measures 28cm X 15.5cm
Brush measures 25cm X 10cm.
