A late 19th century-early 20th century pewter Art Nouveau ink blotter.
With its distinctive curves and free flowing organic forms, this piece is entirely typical of the sumptuous Art Nouveau period.
This wonderful piece with furled leaves and flowers evokes the kind of otherworldly romantic theme beloved by those artists active during this beguiling period of art history.
The original pad is still in place beneath, which would’ve been rocked side to side over liquid ink writing in order to dry off the excess to avoid smudging when there page was turned or folded into an envelope.
There is a break where the handle meets the body on one end, which has been firmly glued in place.
