Early 20th century pair of male and female medical diagnosis diagrams of patients labelled with symptoms

A pair of early 20th century medical annotated diagnosis diagrams with illustrated male and female models, in matching vintage wooden frames.

These fascinating book plates originate from a medical encyclopedia.

From a little distance these appear to be straightforward anatomical diagrams of the male and female of the species, but close up we can read the annotations of a horrendously comprehensive diagnosis of illnesses and diseases, and where on the body their symptoms reveal themselves. From Eye-strain and flat foot to Floating Kidney and Ischio-rectal abscess, there’s truly something for everyone. The effect is that you are looking at an utterly, chronically sick pair of humans. There’s certainly a dark humour to them.

Interesting and, I’m sure, educational. A fascinating read and a great pair of images. These are original plates from an actual book, and not a copied print.

They have been professionally mounted in vintage wooden frames.

One is strung, the other has an integrated hook for hanging.

The frames both measure 27cm X 22cm.
