1987 sculptural bust by Lindsay Balkweill
An iconic resin sculpture produced by London artist Lindsay Balkweill in 1987.
Produced between 1984-87, these pieces were largely made as shop mannequins for high-end opticians, the extended ridge on top of the nose for sitting display spectacles atop.
The style is quintessentially 1980s with its hard lines and crisp contours, taking inspiration also from the Art Deco period more than half a century prior.
Working under the name Lindsay B, with which name the piece is ‘signed’ to the rear alongside the year, this was produced in her Fulham studios. The artist studied at St Martin’s college of Art and exhibited in London, New York and elsewhere.
This particular model was named Brian, and he was produced alongside Brunnhilde. Versions exist in both black and white.
This bust, in plastic, can be slotted into its base or hung on the wall from a purpose made slot to the rear of the head.
A fantastic, iconic, and extremely collectable piece of 1980s British commercial design.
34.5cm tall on base X 17cm wide X 19cm deep. Height when wall mounted 31cm.
