Hand carved Welsh Lovespoon with long chain
A beautifully made traditional Welsh Lovespoon, hand carved from a lovely light Lime wood, by a gentleman in Llangadog, south west Wales.
With an enormously long 10 link chain, miraculously carved entirely out of one length of wood, along with the rest of the spoon, this links onto a padlock, two entwined hearts joining a flower, then finally the heart shaped bowl of the spoon.
Traditionally carved by the man as an expression of his love, showcasing the best of his woodworking skills to show eligibility as provider to both the woman and his potential future father in law; these symbols of love have been a part of Welsh social history and tradition since at least as far back as the 17th century.
