19th century Arts and Crafts hammered toolwork chest of drawers

A quality 19th century chest of 2 over 2 drawers raised on bun feet, replete with Arts and Crafts period decoration of elegant hammered indentations.

*** Shipping is not included, it is by collection or courier. Please read details at the bottom of this section ***

Of stained pine throughout, this piece is aching with character.

Entirely unique, the sea of hammered indentations to the fronts of the drawers would have been painstakingly done with shaped hand tools. Interesting, swirling Celtic-like designs which have been formed around the Arts and Crafts style tool work.

This very solid chest, of thick timbers and sturdy bases (sometimes these are very thin boards). The four drawers slide in and out smoothly around a century and a half after being built, testament to the quality of craftsmanship.

The ornate brass pulls are Edwardian so perhaps applied later.

There are knocks and scrapes from its long history which have blended in well and add to the character. There is a subtle variation to the colouring of the front, and the top and sides are in a deeper shade, the paintwork dried to the sides.

106cm wide X 47cm deep X 76.5cm tall.
