Silver Reed 500 typewriter, early 1980s typewriter in excellent condition with brand new ribbon

A Silver Reed 500 typewriter made in Japan in the early 1980s and in superb, clean and fully functioning condition.

In a simple black and off white colourway, this typewriter benefits from all the functions of the latter day typewriters such as tab key for indents and quick navigation and typing pressure lever from heavy to light. It is a very solid and sturdy machine for one with a plastic chassis, and the feel when typing gives you confidence in the build quality.

As one of the last examples of the century old production history of typewriters before word processors began their takeover, this is a fully evolved example with a separate key for both zero and one (no O or I letters required here). It even has a multiple space button for progressing rapidly across the line without the need to press the space bar dozens of times in succession. It’s fun to use!

It is in excellent working condition but also very clean, whereas so many typewriters have built up a lot of dust and often hair and cigarette ash when they are first discovered after years being out of use. It looks almost brand new, with shiny typebars, clear keys, supple rubber platen and clean mechanics.

This is a very good and fully functional machine in a tasteful neutral colour which would fit any interior. It will be fitted with a brand new black and red ribbon before posting.

Comes with its original hard plastic case.
