Set of 6 very early marbleised resin cups from the 1920s
A wonderfully colourful full set of 6 marbleised resin cups dating from the late 1920s.
The BEATL range was created by M.L., one of three principle English companies experimenting in plastics around a century ago. In 1927 their range of wares made from ‘moulding powders’ was displayed in newly opened The Beatl Shop on Regent’s Street in London following the success of their introduction into Harrod’s, Selfridge’s and John Lewis the previous autumn.
Enjoying the opportunities presented beyond the restrictively dull colours of Bakelite, mixing tinted powders with resin led the way for a broader range of light and affordable objects to come.
These six specimens in a wonderful array of colours of unique design, and in excellent condition, look great together in a group.
They represent a surprisingly early foray into the possibilities of plastics as a potentially useful, futuristic material. Now a full century in age.
Each cup measures 8.7cm tall X 5cm base diameter X 6.2cm top diameter.
