Vintage Danforth anchor as sculptural decor

A large Danforth boat anchor as sculpture, with half a century of marine wear.

Used off the south Wales coast since the 1970s until its retirement, this type of anchor, according to its previous owner, was good for boats around 14-16 feet in length, especially in mud and silt.

With a beautiful colouration from its exposure to sea water over the decades, with its tall triangular panels which as it happens resemble sails, and the large stem which can be tilted in both directions, this works fantastically as a standalone sculpture, resting as it would on a stand, sideboard or chest, as shown in pictures.

Out of context of the sea, especially as it is not the ‘typical’ anchor shape, it becomes a work of art, unusual in its colour, its varied melded forms unified and juxtaposed apparently to meet aesthetic concerns rather than function.

Measures 50cm tall X 36cm deep (with stem resting at an angle / 13.5cm deep with stem upright) X 46cm wide.
