Rare early Ercol 1940s rocking chair
A rare early example of the Ercol rocking chair dating from the 1940s.
***Shipping is not included, it is by collection or courier. Please read details at the bottom of this section***
With all the classic hallmarks of the Ercol chair, with the slim cylindrical spindle back, the curves of the arms and tapering supports, all of which are also seen in later Ercol models. The back of this rocking chair is lower than most in later ranges and gives it a more traditional cottage look.
The wood is stained dark and shows eight decades of use in the patina on the arms and natural wear in all the places you’d expect.
To the rear of the seat is stamped CC41 290 F.182, the latter of which are model numbers, the CC41 refers to the British war time Commodity Control initiated in 1941 (lasting until 1951) to show that the item adhered to the government’s austerity regulations.
The chair will include a cushion originating from the same period of the chair. Whether it was supplied with the chair by the original stockist, or was handmade by the original owner, it is clearly made to fit this chair exactly. It has a large split in the underside of the front edge, which could do with sewing up if used. It is included as an original accessory to the chair, though my personal preference would be to use the chair without this cushion.
This stylish, rare, collectable chair will grace a living room or bedroom or favourite reading spot where the sunlight can reveal the beauty of its timeless 20th century classic design. This is a highly sought after antique of the future. Get it while it’s just a vintage price!
The chair measures 73cm tall X 59cm wide X 74cm deep at the base. The seat height and width is 39cm, the depth is 38cm.
***Due to the size and weight of the cabinet it will be sent by courier from Cardiff. You may also of course collect it or arrange a courier yourself. Shipping by courier arranged by us is to be paid by the buyer directly to the courier on delivery. A price will be arranged by us in advance with a courier we have used many times and agreed with the buyer before confirmation. This cost will be very reasonable as the regular courier gets a lot of work from us. Buyer’s contact details will be passed to the courier with their permission in order to arrange a suitable delivery day and time.***
