Original painting based on Laurel by Art Nouveau artist Alphonse Mucha, by P Williams

A beautiful acrylic on canvas portrait of a lady by P Williams, based on the 1901 Art Nouveau classic ‘Laurel’ by Alphonse Mucha.

The Czech painter Mucha was a leading light in the Art Nouveau movement in Paris in the late 19th century into the 20th.

While this isn’t a direct copy, but more an interpretation of the original, much like a cover version of a song. The subject and style is essentially the same as are the exquisite looping, curling hair and the repeating pattern in the tiled background, bit there are differences in the choice of colour and the expression. The lady in the original is elegant and poised, whereas here the expression is harder, with a more determined attitude to it.

This round picture can be hooked up on the wall by its round wooden frame which measures 38cm X 1.7cm deep.
