Olivetti Lettera 22 typewriter made in UK in 1955, fully functional, with original carry case and fitted with new ribbon
A 1955 Olivetti Lettera 22 typewriter made in Glasgow, UK in the classic grey-green-mushroom colour. This machine is in an excellent working condition and comes with a brand new black and red ribbon fitted, and with its original zip up case which is in unusually good condition (the zips usually go).
This Olivetti has been cleaned, oiled, and checked that all mechanical functions and keys are in great working order before having a fresh new black and red ribbon installed prior to dispatch so it is ready to type the moment it arrives on your doorstep.
The Lettera 22 was a design icon of the mid century and a revelation in portable typewriting. This particular machine, dated by its serial number to 1955, is an early edition of this classic model. The Lettera 22 was designed by Marcello Nizzoli and Giuseppe Beccio in 1953 and remained a best seller for a decade.
It has several distinctive features including the multiple adjustable tab stops for columns, light key touch with one of the most satisfying key sounds of any typewriter, and ultra stylish round keys. This would have been one of the last models of typewriters to retain these before squarer keys became the norm going forward.
Writer Will Self is a committed user of this model and claimed that the Lettera 22 is “widely regarded as the greatest typewriter of all time”. It is certainly a great pleasure to use.
Although a brand new ribbon will be installed, once it runs out further ribbons when eventually required are easily sourced online, and are easy to install. A PDF version of the manual to this typewriter is freely available online should you need assistance with this or other functions.
This machine is off dozens of typewriters I’ve sold, one of the best condition I’ve ever had.
This is a very fine and stylish typewriter with a high end design, and in fantastic working order. What more can you ask from a typewriter?
Measures approx. 32cm deep X 27cm wide X 8cm tall.
