Midcentury Kienzle mantel clock, with original battery movement
A fantastic retro 1960s desk or mantel clock with the original working battery powered movement, bold, stylish numerals at 12, 3, 6 and 9 on a clean, contrasting white face, and the original hands.
Taking one large 1.5v battery (size D in UK), this clock needs no winding and will keep time well. There is an adjusting rod to the reverse which slightly speeds or slows the movement should it run a little fast or slow.
The original clock movement has a solenoid and these make a click every few minutes when the electromagnet kicks in. It roughly sounds like and is the volume of a shutter release on an old camera. This is the way these movements run. You may therefore not want to put it somewhere like a bedroom if you’re sensitive to sounds.
Kienzle clocks are the oldest such brand in Germany, having been founded in 1822. This is a high quality clock maker and that this is still working well after 60+ years is testament to that.
This clock is a useful and stylish addition to a desk, mantel piece, shelf or bedside. It measures 18.5cm wide X 17.5 tall X 5cm deep.
