Large antique deep copper bowl, Channel Islands Bachin

A wonderful huge antique rustic copper bowl with wide brim, contrasted with a mottled black base.

Likely having come from the Channel Islands, this ‘Bachin’ or basin would have originally been used in there 1800s to make preserves, hold water, or used for the preparation of ‘black butter’.

Battered and pitted from a long life of use, this is a great standalone piece with its glowing copper surfaces, hand formed over a century ago, and a complete one-off this deep bowl is oozing character.

It has a piece which could be used to drain the bowl should in the bottom fold (see close ups in collage picture) should it be used as a sink, however there is one other small split which would need to be filled.

Great for fruit, one cones or candles on a sideboard, a plant, it as a standalone piece.

Measures 40-42.5cm in diameter X approx. 10cm tall.
