Indian sari brass and wood printing block
A large wooden fabric-printing block from Bhiwandi, north of Mumbai, India, likely for decorating Saris.
A beautiful piece of craft in its own right, with its tiny geometric brass zig-zagging lines coarsing throughout the panel, beautiful when it catches the light.
There are protruding metal points in the corners which hook into the fabric, allowing the printer to seamlessly match up the blocks in a continuous run within a piece of printed fabric.
An amazingly detailed, tactile, decorative piece with an interesting history.
