Vintage pair of French illustration prints of 19th C. Roses, after J.P. Redouté

A large, midcentury print of an early 19th century floral illustration, with a beautiful composition of yellow and red roses in excellent matching black wooden frames with gilt detail.

This beautifully executed pair of floral illustrations from which the prints are made are by renowned French botanical artist Pierre-Joseph Redouté, the official court artist of Marie Antoinette. He was considered one of the finest painters of flowers in the world.

The flowers illustrated are Rosier jaune de soufre (Yellow sulphur rose) and Rosier Eglantier var. couleur ponceau (Austrian copper rose).
