c.1950s Bakelite Bagatelle – pinball game
An excellent c.1950s large, tabletop example of the traditional English Bagatelle game.
A forerunner of pinball, you can see where that arcade game got its name, with simply produced cups and bumpers for the ball to land in it be redirected by, made from an array of pins. Amongst them sit holes alongside a stamped number of points, some of which have worn away over the decades.
With numerous cups and nails to bounce off and into, and a spring loaded ball launcher, this also comes with 10 steel balls.
The Bakelite surface provides a very smooth rub for the balls meaning they also gather a lot of speed once fired.
A neat feature with this board is the sprung metal flap at the top of the launch channel which easily flings open to let the ball past but springs back closed so the ball can’t return back down the channel. This happens regularly on boards without this feature.
There is a taped-up crack to the back centre of the board. This does not affect game play.
A great bit of family fun for young and old.
