Beautiful 1960s Walnut desk opening to kneehole, ‘Continental’ side table on stylish dansette legs

A wonderful 1960s Walnut cabinet desk with doors that open to a kneehole section with inner shelf.

This beautiful midcentury piece is the perfect little desk for a smaller space, with plenty of room for a laptop, coffee and even a plant too.

Originally folding out to have a sewing machine placed inside, the front doors opening to allow the user to get closer to their work.

Now repurposed as a stylish, compact desk set on its original black dansette legs, with a small footprint which can double as a side table when not in use.

With stunning ‘bookmatched’ walnut veneer to the front, both doors have a mesmerising symmetry in the grain, giving the piece a strong and distinctive look.

An American made piece, it was produced by ‘Continental’ Furniture and still bears some of the makers badge on the inside of the right door. The Continental Furniture Company was established in 1901 by Frederick Nelson Tate, a Canadian immigrant who later served as Mayor of High Point, North Carolina U.S.A., where the furniture was produced.

The top previously had a lot of wear to it, and had been sanded back and given two coats of high quality matte hardwax oil. The legs have had furniture pads beneath the feet too protect your floors.

Keep your work and home life separate with this wonderful transformative little piece of beautiful midcentury furniture.

Measures 58cm wide X 42cm deep X 76cm tall. The inner shelved section measures 47cm wide X 37.5cm deep minus the kneehole cutaway.
