1950s ventriloquist’s doll, Palitoy Archie Andrews toy and Annual

A 1950s or 60s Archie Andrews ventriloquist’s doll made by Palitoy in England.

After the original ventriloquist’s doll named Archie Andrews used by ventriloquist Peter Brough and made famous in TV shows in the 1950s and 60s.

He has rubber hands and a plastic head (made in two joined parts – it is not cracked!) and a charming felt jacket with monogram on the pocket and a shirt and bowtie beneath.

The wooden rod which is accessible from the back can be rotated to turn the head from side to side and the lever to the left on the back can be pulled down to open the mouth which springs back up to close.

A short video to display his abilities:

It comes with a 1958 Archie Andrews annual with stories and illustrations. This has seen quite a few scribbles with biro from the child owner 60 or more years ago, but gives the new owner some context for the character of Archie from his various travails.

He measures 37cm tall.
