1930s Junghans repeater alarm clock with copper case

A beautiful looking Junghans repeater alarm clock dating from the 1930s in full working order.

The markings are in French as that was where it was sourced but Junghans are known as one of the greatest clock makers of the black forest, Germany, founded in the late 1800s.

With richly coloured copper case, this clock has wonderful large, hand-painted numerals and a loud internal bell.

To the face are clear minute markings and attractive triangular hour markings, and two smaller dials, the top being for setting the alarm with the 8 point star logo that Junghans started using in 1890. To the bottom of the face is a dial which marks out the seconds.

As a ‘repeater’ alarm clock, it can be set via the lever at the top to ‘contin.(uous)’ for a constant alarm, or to ‘repeat’ which means around every 20 seconds the alarm stops and then starts again. It’s like an early, mechanical ‘snooze’ function! The other lever to the top is for turning the alarm on or off.

There is a winder for the clock and one for the alarm, and one of each to adjust the time for the above. Behind the stand is a +/- to adjust the speed of the clock slightly if you were to find it is losing or gaining time slightly. There is a large carry handle to the top.

You will notice a couple of dents to the case, I like to imagine someone in the distant past getting frustrated with the alarm in a fragile state, not yet ready to awake.

This is a beautiful looking clock with its Art Deco numerals, large clear face, wonderful rich, aged copper case and its large size for an alarm clock.

A stylish little working gem of a timepiece by a renowned German maker.

This clock measures 11cm diameter X 5cm deep.
