1930s Art Deco Smith’s Montrose mantel clock – Fully professionally restored, working well and chiming

A fantastic looking British made Art Deco Smith’s Montrose walnut cased mantel clock. This clock has been fully professionally serviced, including new springs, from not working at all, to now working perfectly, keeping good time and chiming beautifully.

Great for a shelf, sideboard, atop the piano, it as the name suggests, on the mantelpiece.

With bags of Art Deco style, with its bulging rounded sides and beige clock face with stylish gold tone hands and numerals, pointing to a more minimal, midcentury design to come, but continuing the tradition of the ‘Napoleon hat’ type mantel clocks of previous decades.

This clock has been polished and its glass well cleaned. It comes with its original winding key. The clock is wound from the arbour to the front centre. The hole to the right powers the quarter-hour chiming and the hole on the left powers the striking at the top of the hour. There is a switch to turn on or off the chimes. With the winders then, you can choose to have the clock chime 4 notes on the 15 minutes past, 8 on the half hour, 12 on the 45 minutes past, and on the hour the full 16 notes plus the number of chimes corresponding to the hour.

Please see this video for the full chime and three chimes for 3pm:

Measures approx. 32cm wide X 8.5cm deep X 20cm tall.
