1950s Smith’s mantel clock

A fantastic looking British made Smith’s walnut cased mantel clock dating from the late 1950s.

This clock has been fully professionally serviced and while the original movement could not be salvaged, a quartz movement has been installed and connected to the original hands. So in the best of both worlds it looks exactly as it would have done when it was made (the brass hands and outer ring have been polished to a gleaming gold), but it doesn’t need winding every few days as it runs off an AA battery which will last perhaps for years.

Great for a shelf, sideboard, atop the piano, or as the name suggests, on the mantelpiece.

With bags of Art Deco style, with its bulging rounded sides and beige clock face with stylish gold tone hands and numerals, pointing to a more minimal, midcentury design to come, but continuing the tradition of the ‘Napoleon hat’ type mantel clocks of previous decades, with an updated shape.

23cm wide X 8cm deep X 18.5cm tall.
