19th century mahogany wood scientific clamps

Antique mahogany 19th century pair of clamps on round bases, with wooden tightening pegs and hinged opening with corked grip.

Most likely a clamp for a test tube or similar in a scientific laboratory. I have included a test tube (shown in pictures) which can be used for holding a flower. These could also be used to hold photos or anything else.

They have a fantastic anthropomorphic quality, looking a little like birds, the hinged clamps resembling beaks..

Rare to find, particularly as a pair, these make work display pieces for those with scientific interests or refined decorative taste.

The bases measure 16cm in diameter, the maximum height is 35cm.
