Hanging GWR railway station FIRE bucket with original bracket
An unusual hanging steel FIRE bucket, which came out of the GWR (Great Western Railway) station of Dunster, Somerset.
This station was under the charge of GWR from 1876-1948, when it was passed on to British rail. So this bucket would date from that period.
With its original hanging wall mounting bracket hook, this bucket would have hung on the platform, full of sand ready to throw over any fire, held by the top handle in one hand, the smaller handle to the base in the other, to aid a greater projection of the sand.
Now fire extinguishers have advanced, it’s great for firewood and related bits. It would also make a perfect outdoor ashtray for a restaurant or home, partially filled with sand, or an unique hanging basket for flowers.
It has a very attractive amount of variated wear in the paintwork from decades of weathering.
35cm tall (58cm including both handles) X 27.5cm top diameter. 17cm diameter at bottom rivets. Bracket 17.5cm X 17.5cm X 2cm.
