The Eiffel Tower certified lithograph by Bernard Buffet
The Eiffel Tower (‘La Tour Eiffel’) lithograph made by Parisian artist Bernard Buffet in 1968 with certificate of authenticity on reverse.
A striking lithograph of the much lauded 20th century French artist Bernard Buffet’s home town, Paris, showing the Eiffel tower and the Seine river in his heavily outlined, bold and inimitable Expressionist style.
Being a lithograph rather than a print, this image was produced by the artist himself applying colours to a relief made on stone and then hand making the impression you see before you. It is signed in the plate. The authentication on the reverse certifies that “this is an authentic original lithograph and warrants that it was created by the named artist.” Please see photo #6 for the declaration in full.
Buffet, like so many artists, lived an interesting life. He grew up in Paris and studied at its esteemed École Nationale Supéreure des Beaux-Arts and was given his first retrospective exhibition aged 30. He went on to exhibit all over the world and his works are carried by great institutions world over such as the Tate Gallery in London. He won the legion d’honneur, one of France’s highest honours, and during the present decade is becoming a very sought after artist.

Where the current mount meets the outer white edge of the picture there is some light yellowing from sunlight commensurate with its half century of age. Although only noticeable on close inspection, this could be covered by the appropriate sized mount.
