Superb 1970s British Hacker ‘Hunter’ radio with excellent full sound
1970s Hacker Hunter radio
A fantastic early 70s British Hacker radio, working and sounding fantastic.
This radio is a Hunter model RP38A, produced in 1970.
In a black and silver colourway, with teak wood sides, this large vintage radio has a big, full sound thanks to top end British audio engineering. Founded in Maidenhead, England by brothers Ron and Arthur Hacker in 1959, the company traded successfully until 1977.

‘The stated Hacker philosophy was to focus on technical performance rather than cost, and words to this effect are frequently found in printed material from the time…it is widely accepted among vintage radio enthusiasts that the build quality is higher than most similar sets from the same era’
It has an aerial that extends up to a substantial 85cm which can be lengthened and angled to any position to get the best reception.
This radio runs on two PP9 9 volt batteries (available to buy at £4 each in the UK). It can also be powered by 18v plug in power adapter in place of the batteries.
