Mid 19th century antique copper haystack half gallon jug

A beautiful large half gallon mid 19th century haystack jug with a large spout and many decades of patina which has made the copper an attractive and varied patina from oxidation over the years. This could easily be brought back to a gleaming copper colour but as patina can’t be put back on, it’s left in its current state for those who appreciate the age.

A beautiful antique copper ‘haystack’ jug, named for its unique wide based form with large spout. These were used to bring out beer to all the farm workers during the busy harvest season. They are also sometimes called Harvest jugs for this reason.

With a good, worn form and patina, this piece is great for watering your house plants or decor for the fireplace, containing dried flowers on the shelf or sideboard.

Measures 21cm tall and the base diameter is 19.5cm.

The second jug from three same period, shown in the last photo, is also for sale but not yet listed. Please contact me fora reduced price for the complimentary pair.
