Large spectacular midcentury Metamec Starburst clock
A sublime example of the iconic mid twentieth century Starburst clock.
This one is by perhaps the most famous, leading producer of clocks in England of the period, Metamec.
With a very stylish and classic font with the elongated, pointed, two tone numerals on a minimalist silver face.
This is a particularly large and stunningly good Starburst, with gleaming golden metal points alternating with teak wedges on bronze posts.
I cannot overstate what wonderful condition this piece is in, with no damage, chips or noticeable scratches to the teak wood wedges, and no bends or scratches in the metal spears. If you have been searching for the perfect Starburst, you will notice there’s often a piece missing from these. This clock is completely complete!
It should be noted however, that this piece is circa 60 years old, and upon close inspection, we can notice a slight variation in colour of the metal spears and some tarnishing in places.
The hands are again the classic black pointed shape, echoing the good spears.
The movement is battery powered so has the great benefit of not needing winding. It takes one standard AA battery.
This clock measures 60cm in total diameter, the face is 20.5cm diameter.
