Large antique Sussex oak bushel apple collecting barrel with iron strapwork
A great antique oak bushel barrel with iron strapwork.
Originating from Sussex, this was originally made for collecting apples. Measuring 1 Bushel, this would have taken approximately 120 medium sized apples.
This would make an excellent, large log bucket for the fireside, and presumably has been in the past, with a section of the interior showing burn damage, perhaps from a hot log being returned to it too soon! The container is still very sturdy and there are no structural issues.
There is a large iron handle each side so two people can carry it with ease. One person asking could also carry it.
This would also be good for containing one large floor plant or a few smaller ones.
Measures 50cm diameter at the base (48.5cm at the top) and 24.5cm tall.
