A fantastic Italian sculpted head in antique style, beautifully and powerfully rendered in unfired terracotta.
Signed to the reverse ‘Sironi 84’ this apparently 40 year old piece, perhaps a study of Neptune the Roman god of the sea, perhaps a friend of the artist after a particularly hard night.
This piece was sourced in the past year from Milan by an Italian dealer.
The deep features are superbly modelled and this larger-than-lifesize head has a wonderful texture.
Eye catching and imposing, an impressive and utterly beautiful statement piece.
