Huge tailor’s shears, Sheffield-made scissors

A wonderful, huge pair of Sheffield-made antique steel tailor’s shears.

Not easy to see, but indented into a blade near the joint is Made in Sheffield, as many of the best steel tools of the period were.

A fabulous, tactile set which makes a powerful sculpture for the tailor – or barber – when hung on screws on the wall, or anyone with an adoration for interesting antiques.

These were black and rusted when sourced, and have been thoroughly cleaned over a period of days. I could have gone a little further and removed any evidence of age but stopped before this point.

Without any sharpening these cut a sheet of paper cleanly, and with ease. In case these were being used sculpturally, for safety I have not sharpened them, but with a knife sharpener these could easily become incredibly effective in use once again.

32.5cm long X 10.2cm wide at handles.
