Hadrill and Horstmann white desk lamp, midcentury counterbalance roller lamp
An original Horstman counterbalance lamp in white.
This unique lamp with its unique and famous counterbalance weight means that it can be posed with the weight and stay in position.
Seeming to completely defy laws of physics, the very lightest of touches to the ‘barrel’ weight and the lamp will rise or fall. The shade can be passed independently wherever light is needed.
Sidney Horstmann was an English engineer who worked in the automotive industry and formed Hadrill and Horstmann LTD after the second world war, focussed on making their iconic counterbalanced lamps.
It has been freshly rewired and earthed with 3 core black fabric coated flex, and the plug given a new 3 amp fuse. It has then been PAT tested and bears the pass sticker on its plug (October 2023).
There are several small scratches here and there, as to be expected with a regularly used vintage item such as this which would have seen regular use throughout its half a century + history.
Fully extended the lamp measures approximately 90cm / 3 feet tall. The cable measures 90cm. The shade measures 16.5cm² at the opening. The base is 15cm².
