Edwardian tambour top cabinet
An oak tambour top letter filing rack by ‘Referee’ brand and sold by Restall & Co between 1905-1920.
The front has a golden transfer for the brand and remnants of a typewritten label with the address of the letters which would have been filed in this compartment.
An amazingly well made and elegant solution for such a mundane task.
It would also suit being stood up for keeping something taller, something special you want to keep the dust off, or perhaps to keep jewellery in (small brass hooks could be added to hang items from). It could be a very elegant bread bin or storage box.
The tambour still works smoothly and even stops where it is left so it can stay open to the extent you want it.
38.5cm X 28cm X 21.5cm.
