Early 1900s glass lid large biscuit tin from a Belgian confectionery shop

A fine, large antique biscuit tin with a glass lid from an early 20th century Belgian confectionery shop.

In a deep red with gold lettering and Pierrot on the moon figures, this a very attractive tin, with thick glass to the lid, so that in its original setting the buyer could view the biscuits before selecting which ones to buy. A picture included above with the three chocolate digestive biscuits shows the scale of the tin.

The French text to the front of the tin, for a ‘Confiserie Moderne’ (modern confectionery shop) is repeated in Flemish beneath. Again in French then Flemish at the base is there name for the beautiful Belgian town of what we call in English Ghent, where R. Vandeputte’s sweet shop was based.

A beautiful and useful antique container with an unusual but practical glass lid.

A very rare collector’s piece indeed.

Measures 26cm tall X 23 wide X 22cm deep.
