Antique early 1900s Dutch cigar press
An early twentieth century cigar press from Holland by L. Bezemer & Zn.
Used to form and press the tobacco leaves into shape, this piece has been made with pine which was coloured and built up a lot of pains over the many decades.
It came out of The Bear Shop tobacconists in Cardiff which was founded in 1870, during a shop move a few decades ago. The original owner William Arthur Lewis bought a bear around 1900 and it has remained in the shop ever since. In recent decades it will have been used as a decorative piece in the window of the shop perhaps, with the cigars shown placed in the slots as a representation of the wares available within.
An attractive and tactile piece, great on a wall in halves, the slotted interior beside the stamped exterior. Also an interesting piece for the cigar enthusiast or tobbacciana collector.
Measures 56cm X 10cm X 7.5cm.
