Substantial early 1800s brass cooking pot

An attractive, large brass antique cooking pot with attractive cramp seams to join on the base.

The coppersmith would have flattened the edges, then split the two parts in alternating tabs which are manually interlocked one by one, then brazed with heat to make watertight. The handle is visibly tapered by hand tool, the whole piece untouched by machine but crafted by an individual.

This type of joining phased out by the middle of the 19th century, and this could have been made in the 1700s, though the form and condition suggests the early 1800s is perhaps more likely.

A substantial piece of good quality and colour, and unfussy in its design. This would bring warmth to a space of any decorative aesthetic or period.

This is of course great by the fire for coal or logs, but could also be used as a great planter for a large plant, for shoes, umbrellas…

42cm diameter X 28.5cm tall.
