1950s black Bakelite Call Exchange telephone
A wonderful black Bakelite British rotary dial telephone.
This model, GPO 312F (C54 3A), was produced from 1949 and this style of telephone is typical of the broader midcentury, and is a true design classic from the period.
It retains its original pale red fabric handset and wall cables.
It also has a drawer which pulls out from the base for sheets containing favourite phone numbers.
The dial whirs and rotates as it should and the bell is present.
A piece of paper from the same period as the phone has been used for the centre dial, with a Treharris (South Wales) number typewritten onto it.
Every element of this telephone is in excellent condition. There are no chips in the bakelite which is quite unusual for phones of this age.
Being that this couldn’t be tested it is sold as decor, but based on the aesthetic condition, presence and free ringing of the bells there is every chance it’s in working condition. It will however need a modern wall connector fitted.
Measures 15cm wide X 18.5cm deep X 15cm tall (excluding handset).
