Antique Edwardian Stereoscope 3D image viewer with 10 slides
An antique Stereoscope viewer with 10 viewing image slides from Italy from the first decade of the 1900s.
These marvelous little contraptions for amusement are held beneath by the elegant, turned wooden handle and by peering through the lenses to the image card held on the long nose-like platform. Because our eyes view from slightly different angles and each eye sees its own picture, it is as if the collective image we see is in three dimensions.
The image is placed between the wire holders and that platform can be slid forwards or backwards to focus with the metal pull beneath, as the viewer looks through the lenses.
The Stereoscope is of a oak with some metalwork. This example has a pleasant run of velvet around the front edge where it contacts the face, which makes for a more premium feeling viewing experience!
As a decorative piece it has a great look, almost like a mad mask.
