Collection of cross-stitch French envelopes

An incredible collection of envelopes with an amazing story, all cross-stitched by a skillful hand and posted by La Poste between dedicated friends, in France.

18 beautiful examples are present, most with their postage stamps and inked post office date stamps present.

These were carefully and artfully created and then posted as highly decorative and elaborate envelopes containing handwritten letters between elderly friends.

One of the envelopes still contains the letter originally sent in it. The first page of this letter is shown in a photo. The letter is from Annie Gilbert to Marie-Thérèse, dated Nov 09, 2019. It discusses the recipient’s cross-stitch work, the author’s ongoing recovery from multiple eye surgeries, and her recent move to a new address in Bourges. The correspondence highlights shared interests in embroidery and personal well-being.
