Pair of 1930s Henriot Quimper Faience pottery cups and saucers

A charming pair of c.1930s Art Deco influenced Faience pottery French cups and saucers by Henriot of Quimper, Brittany.

With their unusual hexagonal shape, large scale and classic Breton handpainted design in blues and oranges with flowers and women depicted in traditional dress.

Famous worldwide for its tin glazed pottery since the 17th century, the capital of the department of Brittany has made France’s equivalent of Spain’s Maiolica and Holland’s Delftware.

There is some roughness to many corners of the saucers where the glaze has worn through over time but there are no cracks, chips or craving and are in great vintage condition.

Bought a few miles outside the town where they were lovingly crafted and painted nearly a century ago.

The cups measure 9cm (10.5cm across corners) X 6.5cm tall. The saucers 18cm (20cm across corners).
