Huge antique deep copper bowl, Channel Islands Bachin
A wonderful huge antique rustic copper dish with a wide, simply decorated brim, contrasted with a matte black base exterior.
Likely having come from the Channel Islands, this ‘Bachin’ or basin would have originally been used in the 1800s to hold water, or used for the preparation of ‘black butter’, a Jersey apple based conserve.
Battered and pitted from a long life of use, this is a great standalone piece with its glowing copper surfaces, hand formed over a century ago, and a complete one-off this humongous deep bowl is oozing character.
It could be used as a little pond outside, or perhaps a large sink, however please note the is a small split between the side and base in one spot which would need fixing if it was to hold water. Please see relevant photo.
Great for candles glowing against the golden insides on a sideboard, a plant or few, or as a commanding standalone piece.
66-68cm top diameter X 53cm base diameter X approx. 21-22cm tall.
