Oil painting rendition of Companions by Itzchak Tarkay in black and gilt wood frame
An engaging and elegant oil on canvas portrait of two women out sharing a quiet drink.
This is an unsigned rendition of ‘Companions’ by Eastern European artist Itzchak Tarkay (1935-2012) who was born on the Hungarian / Yugoslav border, and later lived in Israel and America.
A bold and colourful array of forms and patterns make up this wonderfully striking piece in oils. Despite the vivaciousness of the colour scheme, typical of Tarkay’s work, the expressions on the faces are pensive, perhaps melancholic.
The painting is in a vintage gilt frame of some age, and this is partnered within a more contemporary black ebonised solid oak frame. The frame has an acrylic front rather than glass, which has a couple of marks visible if regarded from certain angles in the light.
There is a hook to the reverse for hanging.
The picture is unsigned.
This picture including its frame measures 77.7cm X 66cm.
