Oil painting portrait of Lady with Ermine in antique carved and gilt wood frame
An engaging and elegant oil on canvas portrait of a lady stroking a weasel.
Or so it appears. It’s actually a very nicely executed oil painting copy of ‘Lady with an Ermine by Leonardo da Vinci’.
The face in particular is incredibly well done, capturing the expression, facial contours and shadows beautifully in its imitation of the Renaissance 15th century masterpiece. Like the original, this painting is on a wooden board rather than canvas.
The large solid oak frame suits the age and style of the portrait to a tee with the old style carved dark wood, and the gold on the inner edge of the frame goes perfectly with the blue in the dress. There are some marks and a finger print size round of damage to the gold part, all of which I have tried to show in the photos.
A wonderful, well executed oil paint copy of an historic and very appealing and original image by da Vinci in a perfectly appropriate vintage frame.
